Let's Take the Engine Out

With so much metal flying about in the sump, I decided the engine needed stripping down to assess the damage there might be inside.

 And some of my helpers:

More Metal Pieces in Sump Filter

Put the bike on it's side and took off the sump filter basket.  It was rattling like a tin can full of pebbles.  And this is what came out:
Looks like a part of the piano wire retaining clip (clutch) and a spring from I do not know where.

These ally parts have been rattling around for a while. They are nicely rounded off like stones in a polishing drum.

Cylinder Liner Perhaps?

Serious Metal Chunks in Sump Pan

Next thing to do was to check the oil pan to see what we had in there.  This is what greeted me in the first instance:

I drained all the oil from the sump and ended up with this little lot:
The 2 bigger lumps are aluminium and the 4 smaller ones, which are slightly bowed, are steel.  At least they are magnetic.
The bigger bits:

Clutch?
And the smaller bits:
The 4 smaller pieces are all grooved like this:
And chamfered on the machined edge:
Pistons are in good shape (no scoring at all):

And clutch looks OK:

SuperTrapp Exhaust

This is a stainless steel exhaust.  I can't believe how light it is.  I have a couple of concerns.  Firstly the retaining plates are all bent (no longer flat) and there is not way of getting them off and flattened out.  They are held on with another collar this is fixed on.  So I am not sure that I can fix this:

Here are the bent retaining plates:

These collars stop the retaining plates coming off:
The bike has obviously been beeched at some time. How do I repair this:

Other Head Damage

I snapped 2 bolts taking off the cam journal bearing caps:

And a couple of the bolt holes look a little stripped or already have coils fitted:

A Look Inside

I got the head off and was quite surprised at what it looked like with the pistons and valves.  I thought it wasn't so bad.

 The honing is still visible:

And the pistons don't look too bad (I scratched that with a screwdriver):

Cam chain guide looks worn:
